Marketing Director UK – FMCG Food Brands

Head out to the west of London for this exciting and high-visibility senior role, driving the brand strategy and vision for this household name brand, as well a number of other brands in the portfolio, each with multiple SKUs. With day-to-day strategic, operational and P&L responsibility, you will lead the direction, development and execution of strategic plans to drive profitable growth for the key UK market. Together with the senior leadership team, you will deliver sales, volume and profitability goals, managing the brand and portfolio strategy, category vision, advertising & media strategy, creative development and consumer promotions, as well as developing pack and product innovation against a clear growth roadmap. You will lead and inspire an agile, highly-motivated, empowered team of 6 who share your passion for the challenge and opportunity to make a significant impact upon the business.

We’re looking for someone with exceptional strategic and creative thinking skills; someone who can dig deep and get under the skin of the brands, to drive the core brand equity to new heights, create distinctive and contagious messaging, and launch innovative and compelling new propositions, working in conjunction with the EMEA leadership teams.

Key responsibilities and skills include:

  • Driving the P&L and budgets for each brand and product group to plan, managing risks and opportunities.
  • Developing comprehensive brand, category and business growth strategies through annual brand plans that drive profitable share growth, developing and leading transformational business change projects as required.
  • Leading and coaching the brand team to identify consumer growth target(s), using insights to develop breakthrough ideas that deliver business objectives and delight the target consumer.
  • Monitoring the execution and forecasting of plans, and ensuring directional changes as needed, including supporting the team to identify problems to solve and future opportunities.
  • Providing direction to key cross-functional partners including R&D, sales, innovation, manufacturing, quality control, finance and legal, as well as external agencies.
  • Energetically championing the growth agenda, including product renovation and innovation, advertising and activation plans and portfolio strategy.
  • Influencing the trajectory of the marketing department and business as a core member of the Marketing & Business Leadership Teams.

Are you the right person for this role?

We’re looking for a highly commercial marketeer, with a track record of building FMCG brands, thinking creatively and pushing new ideas and approaches; someone with natural energy, curiosity and passion for their brands, with an instinctive grasp of what excites consumers. This is a role for an entrepreneurial and rigorous thinker with great judgement and self-belief; a leader who sets the tone and enables their team to be at their best producing great work.

Extensive experience across the mix, ideally (but not essential) having spent some time in food & drink, is key to your success, however this role is all about ownership, autonomy and a truly hands-on style.

Of course, our client needs financial acumen, and an understanding of profit drivers that maximise returns, but the priority here is your ability to deliver projects, using your understanding and judgement to make things happen!

  • Smart and focused with learning agility, supported by exceptional academics, ideally in business or marketing.
  • Strong FMCG industry experience with relevant skills, and proven success in delivering growth.
  • Exceptional people leadership skills, with a track record of developing, building and engaging effective teams.
  • Proven leadership in strategic thinking, communication and influencing in matrix-based organisations.
  • Extensive analytical and change leadership experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Expert level in functional/technical marketing skills - brand & communications, including digital marketing, social media, consumer activations and promotion.
  • A robust and proven track record of leading successful innovation, NPD and EPD, from concept to launch.
  • Clear and demonstrated ability to translate consumer insights into compelling, exciting and sellable product concepts.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, supported by high-level exposure to key business functions, including Sales, Finance and Supply Chain, as well as external agency management.
